Gopher hockey teams win in Friday routs
Both the University of Minnesota men's and women's hockey teams won with shutout routs Friday against their respective opponents.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Both the University of Minnesota men's and women's hockey teams won with shutout routs Friday against their respective opponents.
The women's team clobbered Minnesota State 7-0 at Ridder Arena. They tallied four goals in the third period alone to add to a 3-0 lead. Sarah Erickson scored twice and Amanda Kessel had a goal and two assists to lead the No. 3 ranked Golden Gophers. Goalie Noora Raty made 19 saves. The U is 5-1 in the WCHA and 7-1 overall.
Meanwhile the Minnesota men belted Vermont 6-0 at Mariucci Arena to improve to 5-0. The No. 8 ranked Golden Gophers scores three goals apiece in the second and third periods. Nick Bjugstad scored twice for the Gophs' while Kyle Rau had a goal and an assist and Zach Budish had two assists as did Jake Hansen.
The Gophers mens' team will conclude their series with the Catamounts Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
