Based on the popular Disney Channel film, High School Musical is the story of everyone’s struggle to be who they really want to be. In the story, Troy Bolton (senior Travis Kroll) is the star basketball player until he learns he loves to sing when he meets Gabriella Montez (senior Marisa Nelson). When the pair auditions for the school musical, it creates chaos in the school, especially for twins and drama club leaders Sharpay and Ryan Evans (senior Marissa Monett and sophomore Kenny Stowe).
Troy’s friends Chad (senior Adam Lee) and Zeke (junior Alex Campbell) and Gabriella’s friend Taylor (senior Laura Taranto) try to talk the two out of performing in the show as the various school cliques find the status quo being challenged. Basketball Coach Bolton (senior Parker Johnson) and Drama Teacher Mrs. Darbus (senior Kirsten Fuchs) add to the fight between sports and the arts.
The cast is rounded out by seniors: Jacob Betthauser, Brady DeGross, Stephanie Deiss, Gretchen Hamblin, Rachel Hayes, Parker Hines, Alison Kidd, Lydia Kuhl, Austin Langer, Cody Laskaris, Jay Pavloski, Shane Smith, Matt Solyntjes and Alea Wilbur. Junior cast members are: Katie Deiss, Hank Holdorf and Molly Schneider-Adams. Sophomore cast members include: Jacob Fuchs, Dan Giese, Olivia Helmer, Maddie Langer, Sabrina Shonkwiler and Hayley Stoesz.
The lively and entertaining score with memorable songs such as “We’re All in this Together” is performed by a small ensemble under the direction of Dan Kayhart. The band includes Lynn Dulak, and seniors Megan Albarado, and Ade Putra (an exchange student from Indonesia), junior Ty Thomas, and sophomores Ashley Schwarzhoff and Caleb Truax.
The show is directed by Shelly Moore, with technical and vocal direction from Peter Dulak, stage management provided by senior Abby Vircks, and sounds and lights operated by returning crew members Ben Moldenhauer and Jacob Hartman. Counting cast, crew, band, set construction and costume construction, over 110 students have been involved in this production.
High School Musical is based on the Disney Channel Original movie of the same name.
