Ohio St. feeling more confident thanks to Wisconsin's loss to Michigan St.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Wisconsin’s last-minute loss at Michigan State gave new inspiration to the Badgers’ next opponent, Ohio State. That’s because Wisconsin’s loss put the Buckeyes back in contention in the Big Ten Conference Leaders’ Division.

Ohio State is 1-2 in conference play – and they’ve got a tough remaining schedule which also includes Purdue and division leader Penn State. But if they can somehow win their final five games, Ohio State could take the division crown and advance to the Big Ten title game on December third. It would be a major feat for a team that’s been riddled with NCAA trouble, suspensions, and injuries. But Buckeyes’ interim coach Luke Fickell says his players are juiced, knowing they’re no longer dependent on several other teams to have a chance. Defensive tackle John Simon said his team felt it was going nowhere after starting 0-2 – but now, they’re motivated because they have some hope.

But Badgers’ coach Bret Bielema says Wisconsin is confident it can bounce back from its loss to the Spartans. He said Saturday night’s game is especially big because it’s a divisional contest – as are four of Wisconsin’s next five. Also, the Badgers hope to make it two-in-a-row over the Buckeyes, after crushing then-Number-One Ohio State 31-18 a year ago in Madison.
