Old Cowbelle: Brewers–or–Cardinals?

I used to think watching a baseball game on TV was about as exciting as watching paint dry.
BUT..this fall I have really enjoyed watching the Brewers and Cardinals! Maybe because it’s another excuse to “sit” and rest my weary legs?
By this time, I suppose one of those two teams has won the four games. I am hoping it will be the Brewers. But if the Cardinals are the winners, my Mom will surely be smiling down from Heaven, since she was an avid Cardinals fan.
Maybe she chose that team because she was also an avid bird lover; and the Cardinals have such cute uniforms, white shirts with a bright red cardinal perched on each end of a baseball bat.
Sitting in a recliner, a bowl of popcorn in my lap, a mug of hot cocoa and a blaze in the fireplace….it doesn’t get much better than this!
(Simple soul, with simple pleasures)
Since next week is “Trick or Treat” time, it will be the only time of the year that the following poem would fit. I look forward to the little munchkins knocking on my door, all dressed up, cute or scary! Alas, very few come out our way anymore, since most of the kids like to do their thing in town where the houses are closer together. Have fun, kids!
Ghosts and goblins, trick or treat;
Bags full of candy for something sweet!
Jack-O-Lanterns, grinning wide,
All lit up with a candle inside.
Scary movies and spider webs,
Black cats and bats flying overhead!
Headstones etched with “Rest in Peace,”
Skeletons dangling from the trees!
It’s exciting for little ones, scary and fun;
Who has the most candy, when the evening is done
With hot cocoa and toast by the fireside,
Re-telling their bravery, swelling with pride!
Why do we forget that it’s All Saints Day?
To remember the loved ones passed away.
How did it evolve to this fearsome night?
With its real true meaning out of sight?
God can transform us to shine bright and grin,
By placing the Spirit of Jesus within!
Our light can glow forth for the whole world to see,
Then we can say, “BOO! It’s just Jesus and me!”
