COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Wisconsin football team is fairly healthy as it gets ready to play at Ohio State tomorrow night. Coach Bret Bielema says running back Montee Ball and safety Dezmen Southward will both play against the Buckeyes, after they were hurt in last weekend’s loss at Michigan State.
Ball suffered a head injury in the second quarter – but he returned for the second half against the Spartans and ran for 115 yards and a touchdown. Bielema said Ball has practiced all week without a problem. Southward aggravated a shoulder stinger while sharing snaps with Shelton Johnson. Johnson is expected to start tomorrow night, and Southward will again be the backup. Both had a pair of tackles each against Michigan State.
Backup receiver Fred Willis is out with an ankle injury, but he’s expected to return November fifth when the Badgers host Purdue. Defensive end David Gilbert is still out with a broken left foot – and he could return either November fifth or 12th.
Also, the Badgers said back-up offensive lineman Casey Dehn has left the football team so he can focus on track-and-field. He’s a talented shot-putter. Wisconsin hopes to go 3-1 in the Big Ten after tomorrow night. Ohio State hopes to even its conference mark to 2-2.
