Minnesota Sports Briefs: Gophers still, enjoying win over rival Iowa

-- The University of Minnesota football is still basking in the glow of Saturday's surprising 22-21 victory over rival Iowa.

(Minneapolis, MN) -- The University of Minnesota football is still basking in the glow of Saturday's surprising 22-21 victory over rival Iowa.

The win was the first conference victory for first-year head coach Jerry Kill. The 2-6 Golden Gophers play at Michigan State this Saturday. The Gophers will not practice today, but will hit the practice field tomorrow.

The Minnesota Wild are scheduled to have a morning workout at the Xcel Energy Center this morning before leaving for Detroit for tomorrow night's game against the Red Wings. Minnesota just blanked Detroit 1-0 on Saturday night in St. Paul. Tomorrow's game begins at 6:30 p.m.

The Minnesota-Duluth women's hockey team notched a shootout win over North Dakota yesterday in Duluth after the teams played to a 2-2 tie after regulation and overtime. The Bulldogs finished the weekend by gathering four points in the standings. Pernilla Winberg scored the difference-making shootout goal.

The University of Minnesota men's cross country team finished third in yesterday's Big Ten championship meet at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. Wisconsin won the men's title for the 13th consecutive season. Gopher runner Hassan Mead of Minneapolis finished fourth. The Golden Gopher women finished fifth the league tournament. Mankato native Stephanie Price of the Gophers finished fifth individually in the meet. Michigan State won its second straight women's crown.
