Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said today he had no idea that a private Wisconsin firm might have illegally spent $40,000 dollars to help Cain’s campaign get off the ground this year.
Cain was asked about it on Fox News. The former Godfather’s Pizza CEO saidhe didn’t know about the report until the TV interviewer brought it up – and his staff was still looking into it.
Wisconsin Republican operatives Mark Block and Linda Hansen help run Cain’s campaign. And Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel columnist Dan Bice dug up records showing that the two aides’ former company, Prosperity USA, covered tens-of-thousands of dollars for travel, I-Pads, and other items a couple months after Cain started taking donations for his White House bid.
Also, Bice said Prosperity USA had paid up to $100,000 to a conservative black group shortly before Cain spoke at its Martin Luther King Day dinner in January. The report said the firm might have disbanded, and there’s no indication of Prosperity USA’s expense or a speaking honorarium on Cain’s federal campaign finance reports.
