Finals set for state volleyball tourney

The finals for all four divisions are set for today at the WIAA State Volleyball Tournament in Green Bay

GREEN BAY - Owen-Withee will face Burlington Catholic Central tomorrow for the Division 4 girls’ state high school volleyball championship. Both teams won their semi-final matches Friday at the Resch Center in Green Bay.

Owen-Withee eliminated Wausau Newman three-games-to-one. Alyssa Gordon had 25 digs and 12 kills for the winners. Burlington Catholic Central shut out Hillsboro in the other semi-final. Maggie Smith had 11 kills for Catholic Central.

In Division 3, Spencer and Oostburg advanced to the championship match. Spencer upset No. 1 ranked Grantsburg in the semifinals, three games to two. Courtney Schulz had 26 kills for the Rockets, who won the final game 15-12. Oostburg improved to 45-and-3 by defeating Hazel Green Southwestern in four sets. Jo-Leigh VerVelde led Oostburg with 29 assists, 18 kills, 15 digs, and five service aces.

The Division-Two semi-finals saw Tomahawk beat Oconto Falls 3-2. The Hatchets will play defending champion Waukesha Catholic Memorial after the Crusaders downed Walworth Big Foot 3-1. In Division 1, Burlington defeated Watertown 3-1 and Fond du Lac downed Milwaukee Divine Savior's Holy Angels 3-2.
