DELAFIELD - Four squad cars tried in vain to stop a woman headed the wrong way on I-94 Saturday before she slammed into another vehicle head-on. Both drivers died in the crash.

The Waukesha County Sheriff’s office says it got several calls about the car going the wrong way on the interstate shortly after midnight. Several law enforcement agencies sent squad cars to try to avoid an accident, but they were too late. Forty-one year old Brian St. Germaine of Watertown was killed by the wrong-way driver. That 44 year old woman wasn’t identified.

The accident happened in the town of Delafield. One deputy rushing to catch the wrong-way car almost wound up involved in the accident. Eastbound lanes of I-94 were shut down for more than three hours early yesterday at the crash site west of Milwaukee.
