Pierce County has two of top ranked high school wrestling teams in the state according to Crossface Magzine's preseaon poll.
Ellsworth, the defending state champions in Division II again has the No. 1 ranking and for good reason. The Panthers have eight returning starters including defending individual state champs Jens Lantz and Roarke Langer and runner-up Parker Hines.
EHS will begin the season with a new head coach for the first time since 1975 as Chad Steldt takes over for Jack Radabaugh who will move into an assistant coaching role.
Spring Valley-Elmwood returns state runner-up Brady Webb along plenty of returning starters in their line-up like David Walker Nick Berg, Andy Bune, Steve Von Haden, Brian Fesenmaier, Conner Sieracki and Jon Newton. The Redbirds will need them competing in arguably the toughest Division 3 conference in the state in the Dunn-St. Croix of which they are the defending champs.
The the first practice is next Monday and the season begins for Ellsworth Dec. 1 in a dual meet at Amery (Prescott also begins their season at Somerset that evening). The Ellsworth Invitational is on Dec. 3 and Spring Valley-Elmwood begins its season that same day at Dick Shiels Invitational in Faribault, Minn.
