MADISON - The University of Wisconsin men’s basketball team improved to 2-0 by crushing Colgate 68-41 last night in Madison.
The 14th-ranked Badgers were up by 22 at the intermission – but they only made one basket in the first eight minutes of the second half. They only shot 36-percent in the final 20 minutes. And they hit 44-percent for the game to Colgate’s 35-percent. The Badgers also struggled at the free-throw line, making just 4-of-14.
Sophomore guard Ben Brust led Wisconsin with a career-high 17 points – and he hit four three-pointers in the first half. Jordan Taylor added nine points, seven rebounds, and four assists. John Brandenburg had 11 points and six boards for Colgate, which fell to 1-1. Wisconsin will host Wofford on Saturday night.
Meanwhile, Badgers’ freshman guard George Marshall has decided to take a red-shirt for this season. He would only have limited playing time behind senior Jordan Taylor anyway. Marshall will still have four years of eligibility starting next season.
