MADISON - Three champions were crowned Friday in the state finals of the WIAA Football Playoffs at Camp Randall Stadium.

Led by a smothering defense, Kenosha Bradford blanked Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln 7-0 Friday to take the WIAA Division 1 state championship. The Red Devils defense did it one last time in the closing seconds, knocking down a pass on fourth down with two seconds to go to clinch the win. During an injury-plagued season, Bradford lost six players to season-ending knee injuries. Senior John Myers scored the game’s only touchdown with less than four minutes left in the game. Both teams came in averaging more than 28 points a game, the defenses ruled. Bradford was held to 215, while its stout defense held Lincoln to 152. It was the first-ever state title for Bradford.

Waunakee High School won its third straight Division 2 state high school football title Friday. Waunakee crushed Waterford 45-to-nothing at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison. Leo Musso ran for 180 yards and a Division 2 record four touchdowns. Musso’s longest scoring run was 41 yards. Waunakee victory margin of 45 points was the largest in D-2 history, surpassing the previous mark of 41 points. Waunakee finished a 14-0 season. Waterford closed out its campaign at 12-2.

West De Pere High School won its second straight WIAA Division-Three state football title Friday. West De Pere capped off a perfect 14-0 season with a 39-24 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison. Quarterback Jay Tollefson ran for 176 yards with three short touchdowns of one, one, and two yards. And he threw for 61 yards and two more TD’s to Jordan Forrest and Brandon Carter. West De Pere led 25-17 at the half, and scored two touchdowns in the second half to one for Wisconsin Lutheran, which ended its season at 11-3.
