Bucks to brag about taken in Pierce County for Wisconsin's gun-deer opener

Haley Walz of Hudson showed off a couple of bucks her hunting party took near the Rush River on the opening day of the gun-deer season Saturday. The 10- and nine-point animals weighed approximately 160 and 150 pounds, respectively. They were dropped with a clear shot around 8 a.m. while the hunters were sitting on some rocks in a ravine.

Dennis Haas of Ellsworth had success on opening morning of the gun-deer hunting season Saturday. Haas was in a tree stand near the Gas-Lite around 8 a.m. when he dropped a nine-point, 160-pound buck from 70 yards away. He registered the animal at SuperAmerica in Ellsworth.

Jim Huber was hunting near the Ellsworth Rod and Gun Club when he shot a nine-point buck weighing 200 pounds about 9 a.m. of Saturday’s gun-deer season opener.

A pair of does was the prize for Mike Kinneman of Hager City on the opening morning of the gun-deer season. Kinneman achieved the success from a tree stand around 7 a.m. near CTH O north of Diamond Bluff. He estimated the does weighed approximately 140 and 90 pounds.

Andrew Johnson tagged one of the two does he brought back from the gun-deer season opener Saturday. Johnson was hunting about 10 miles east of Ellsworth when the animals, which weighed around 100 pounds each, were downed.

Cari Martinez bagged her first buck while participating in her second season of gun-deer hunting Saturday. Martinez had a clear shot at the eight pointer, weighing between 170 and 180 pounds, from a ground position near Nugget Lake.
