RIVER FALLS - For the second consecutive season, the UW-River Falls men’s basketball team has defeated the defending NCAA Division III champions at Karges Center.

Shane Manor led four Falcons in double figures as 21st-ranked UWRF defeated No. 8 St. Thomas, 79-64, in their home opener Tuesday night.

The Falcons led 36-32 at halftime before St. Thomas scored the first basket of the second half to pull to within two. That’s as close as the Tommies would get as UWRF went on a 13-5 run to open up a double-digit lead, 49-39, on a Chris Palmer layup with 15:49 remaining.

UWRF took its biggest lead of the game, 78-59, on a pair of Ollie White free throws with just over three minutes left to play.

Wade Guerin contributed 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in the win while Palmer added 11 points and White finished with 10.

The Falcons improved to 3-1 on the season while handing St. Thomas its first loss and snapping the Tommies 14-game winning streak. Last year the Falcons defeated top-ranked UW-Stevens Point to end the Pointers 15-game winning streak.
