Minnesota State Sports Briefs: Peterson misses practice again

-- For the second consecutive day Vikings running back Adrian Peterson did not participate in practice. Peterson is trying to recover from a high ankle sprain he suffered last week against Atlanta.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - For the second consecutive day Vikings running back Adrian Peterson did not participate in practice. Peterson is trying to recover from a high ankle sprain he suffered last week against Atlanta.

Today is an important day in his recovery as head coach Leslie Frazier said earlier in the week that Peterson would try to participate in practice today. Also, the Vikings are banged up at tight end where both starter Visanthe Shiancoe and his back up Kyle Rudolph have been unable to participate in practice this week. Shiancoe has a sore hamstring and Rudolph has a sore quad. The Vikings face off against the Falcons this Sunday in Atlanta kick off is set for noon.

The Minnesota wild will be looking for win number six in a row this afternoon when they host Edmonton in their annual Black Friday matinee affair. The Wild are currently the NHL's top team with 29 points on the season. The Oilers come into town in second place in the Northeast Division trailing the Wild by 6 points. Puck drops at the "X" in Saint Paul this afternoon at 3 p.m.

The University of Minnesota men's hockey team is in East Lansing today taking on the Michigan State Spartans for a two game non conference match up at the Munn Ice Arena. The Golden Gophers come into the series ranked No. 2 in the country with a 12-2-0 record. Michigan State comes into the weekend ranked 20th in the country with a 6-5-0 record but the Spartans have won five of their past six games. Both teams will be joining the new Big Ten hockey conference starting in 2013. Puck drops tonight in East Lansing at 6 p.m.
