Golden Gophers lose third straight Friday contest

-- No. 20 ranked Michigan State got the jump on No. 2 Minnesota at the start of the first and third periods which led to a 4-3 win Friday at the Munn Ice Arena.

EAST LANSING, Mich. - No. 20 ranked Michigan State got the jump on No. 2 Minnesota at the start of the first and third periods which led to a 4-3 win Friday at the Munn Ice Arena.

The Spartans scored twice to take a 2-0 lead in period one. Minnesota came back quickly to tie the contest with goals by Nick Bjugstad and Seth Helgeson but MSU broke the tie at the start of the third period with a pair of goals.

Bjugstad scored his second goal to bring Minnesota within one but no closer.

Getting assists were Zach Budish, Mark Alt and Jake Hansen. Kent Patterson had 19 saves on 23 Michigan State shots while Spartan goalie Drew Palmisano made 40 saves as the Golden Gophers badly outshot State despite losing.

The series concludes this Saturday with the face-off at 6 p.m. (CST).
