Sunday State Sports Briefs: Bucks to learn more about start up of NBA season
Wisconsin Sports-- The Milwaukee Bucks will apparently be getting more information from the league this weekend after the announcement that a tentative contract deal has been worked out.
MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Bucks will apparently be getting more information from the league this weekend after the announcement that a tentative contract deal has been worked out.
The NBA says the season will begin on Christmas, but the Bucks don’t know yet if they will be playing that day, or not. There is no official schedule. Several members of the team’s sales and marketing department are meeting today in Milwaukee to begin the process. If fans have questions about their ticket packages, phones will be answered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at 414-227-0500. Tickets will be sold again and practices should start soon at the Cousins Center training facility. The 149-day National Basketball Association lockout has ended.

Despite the time-off granted by Coach Mike McCarthy, some Packers players were at the team’s facility last Friday. Some were lifting weights, others getting help for minor injuries. It’s not just the perfect record experts are talking about when they say this year’s team is much better off than 2010. Injury-wise, the Packers are doing okay and have another whole week to get healthy. Chad Clifton’s hamstring injury is lingering, and troubling, but Marshall Newhouse has played well in his absence. Getting through three games in a week and a half is a big thing for Green Bay. A couple of days off will help the players rejuvenate for the rest of the season’s games.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's basketball team trailed for most of the game, taking the lead for good with a little over two minutes to go in a 59-54 win over Arkansas-Little Rock. Panthers shooters were cold in a 32-percent performance in the first half. They heated up, hitting half of their shots after intermission. James Haarsma led Panther scoring with 17 points. Milwaukee had trailed 38-31 with about 14 minutes left, then started the comeback. The Panthers record is 5-1. Kyle Kelm scored 11 points and took down eight rebounds in the win.
