The Ellsworth High School wrestling team is hosting the 48th Ellsworth Invitational Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
This will be the first Ellsworth Invite meet for Chad Steldt as the Panthers new head coach. Steldt won his debut dual meet Thursday as the No. 2 ranked Panthers topped Amery 46-15.
"This is a great way to start our season," Steldt said. "You have a competitive conference dual meet between two quality programs and you have the invitational right after that. It's been an exciting week for us."
EHS has won the last seven Invite titles in a row, including last year where they amssed 342.5 points, easily beating runner-up Boyceville. They will be favored again in a field which will be the same as last season's with No. 8 ranked Boyceville, River Falls, Medford, St. Croix Falls, Cadott, Prescott, Unity and Durand.
Returning champions include Ellsworth's Jens Lantz, Brent Stockwell, Roarke Langer and Parker Hines and Prescott's Josh Farr.
This meet will feature the new high school weight classes of 106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 145, 152, 160, 170, 182, 195, 220 and 285.
This will be Prescott's first tournament this season. Last night the Cardinals lost their season opening dual to Somerset 48-29.
