INDIANAPOLIS - There was no way to anticipate this. Russell Wilson’s attention-getting success as a one-year transfer to the University of Wisconsin has made Camp Randall look like a pretty good place to land. The Badgers are getting double the number of usual contacts from players who want to transfer in to Madison.

Coach Bret Bielema says 10 players have contacted the university to see about the possibility of finishing their college careers as a Badger. The coach says four or five is a normal number. He also says he’s taking a close look at character when he considers a potential transfer. Wilson brought on all the attention by leading Wisconsin to today’s Big Ten Conference championship game against Michigan State. He has completed nearly 73 percent of his passes for 26 hundred 92 yards and 28 touchdowns in a dozen games. The Badgers bring a 10-2 record into the contest and a thirst for revenge after the 37-31 loss the first time the two schools met this season.

Milwaukee Brewers’ general manager Doug Melvin says there’s no truth to a report that the Brewers are willing to increase their offer to free agent first baseman Prince Fielder. ESPN’s Buster Olney had tweeted that the Brewers have told agent Scott Boras they’re willing to boost the five-year, $100-million-dollar offer they made last year to six years and $120-million if that would help reach an agreement. Melvin said the Brewers have not had any discussions with Boras about that – and they wouldn’t confirm it if they did. Melvin told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel he’ll probably touch base with Boras next week in Dallas during baseball’s Winter Meetings. But he did not say that an offer would be made.
