MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota men's basketball team won its second straight game without power forward Trevor Mbakwe 55-40 over Southern California Saturday afternoon at Williams Arena.

The Golden Gophers had three players in double figures led by Julian Welch's 16 points, Rodney Williams 12 points and Austin Hollins' 11 points. Williams also had nine rebounds.

Minnesota improves to 8-1 overall and hosts Appalachian State Tuesday with a 7 p.m. tip-off.
