DALLAS - Minnesota Twins general manager Terry Ryan made a trade at baseball's Winter Meetings yesterday in Dallas. He shipped right-handed pitcher Kevin Slowey to the Colorado Rockies for a player to be named later.

The 27-year-old Slowey was a second-round pick of the club in 2005 and appeared in 100 games for the Twins over four big league seasons, winning 39 and losing 29. He was mostly a starter during his time with Minnesota, although he was used out of the bullpen six times this past season, started eight games, and went 0-8 during an injury-riddled campaign. The player to be named later could be announced as soon as tomorrow.

Former University of Minnesota quarterback Sandy Stephens, who passed away in 2000, was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame at a ceremony in New York City last night. Stephens was a first-team all-America selection in 1961 and led the Gophers to their last two Rose Bowl appearances in 1961 and 1962. He was the Big Ten's Most Valuable Player in 1961 and was the first-ever African-American quarterback to earn all-America honors. He was fourth in the 1961 Heisman Trophy race. Fourteen players and two coaches make up the 2011 College Football Hall of Fame Class. Ohio State Heisman Trophy winning running back Eddie George and Florida State cornerback Deion Sanders headline the class.

The Minnesota Vikings will be on the practice field for the first time this week later today. The 2-10 Vikings will be preparing for Sunday's game at the 7-5 Detroit Lions. Kickoff is set for noon on Sunday.

The revised 66-game NBA schedule has been released and the Minnesota Timberwolves will open at home against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday, December 26th at the Target Center. In fact, six of the first seven games of the season will be home games for the Wolves. The Miami Heat will visit the Twin Cities on December 30th, while the defending champion Dallas Mavericks are at the Target Center two days later on New Year's Day. The Los Angeles Lakers will make two visits to Minneapolis: January 29th and March 9th. Kevin Garnett and the Celtics play at the Target Center on March 30th. Minnesota will have a seven-game road trip in March to make way for the boys' and girl's state tournament at the Target Center.
