Barge traiffic on the Mississippi halted for the winter

ST. PAUL - Barge traffic has halted for another season on the Upper Mississippi between St. Louis and the Twin Cities.
The Upper Midwest's spring flooding delayed the season but shippers caught up - thanks to a long, mild autumn. And lots of goods moved upriver.
The Army Corps of Engineers' Shannon Bauer says it was an "average" shipping season. Crews will repair locks and dams during the winter layoff. Barge traffic typically resumes in late March but depends on how fast the river ice melts.
