Drop off winter wear to go to charities

If kids and puppy dogs have a soft spot in one’s heart, here is an opportunity to lend a hand while enjoying a cup of good cheer in return.

If kids and puppy dogs have a soft spot in one’s heart, here is an opportunity to lend a hand while enjoying a cup of good cheer in return.

While working on that shopping list, pick up an extra pair of snow pants, boots, pet food or pet treats to pass on to local charities in Pierce County. Drop off the items at Flat Pennies Ice Cream on Hwy. 35 in Bay City to cash in on a hot chocolate, flavored coffee or ice cream treat for free.

Snow pants, boots, coats, hats, mittens and gloves in adult and youth sizes will be distributed through the Basics for Local Kids program serving kids in Pierce County and the surrounding area. This program has assisted over 160 local kids already this winter season, but continues to have a significant shortage of snow pants and boots.

Animal food, treats, collars and leashes will be used by the sheriff’s department for animals in neglect or emergency situations within the county.

Flat Pennies Ice Cream is offering up good deed treats, one per visit, when items are dropped off during working hours of 11 a.m.–7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sundays (closed on Thursdays) through Saturday, Dec. 31.
