Hartland's Seidel wins national cross country championship

SAN DIEGO - Four-time Wisconsin state cross country champion Molly Seidel takes it up a notch. The Hartland University Lake School senior is a national champion, too. She won the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships in San Diego yesterday.

Seidel is the first girl from Wisconsin to win that title. Chris Solinsky of Stevens Point won it in 2002. Seidel completed the five thousand meter course in Balboa Park in 17 minutes, 22 seconds. She finished two seconds ahead of Erin Finn of West Bloomfield, Michigan.

Seidel will compete in cross country and track next year at Notre Dame. The only other runner from Wisconsin was Franklin sophomore Allie Fons. She finished 15th, automatically qualifying as an All-American.
