Ellsworth High School's girls basketball team suffered another close loss in this early portion of the season.
The Panthers fell to rival River Falls 41-38 despite leading by nine points midway through the second quarter at 19-10.
But the Wildcats came back to cut the deficit to 22-18 at halftime. After both teams scored 10 points apiece in the third quarter, River Falls outscored EHS 13-6 in the fourth quarter.
The game stats were even except RF's Lexi Knotek hit three three-pointers and was the only player to make a three-pointer in the ballgame. She had 12 points to go with teammate Masy Engel's 16 points. Ellsworth had just one player in double figures, Lydia Kuhl, with 13 points. Abbey Ristow finished with nine points and Becca Matzek had six points.
The loss is the fourth in a row for EHS and by a combined 21 points plus one overtime contest. The Panthers will look to break streak Friday when they play at Amery. River Falls improves to 3-2 overall and plays Chippewa Falls at home Friday.
