PHOENIX - Jason Kubel is heading to the desert. The free-agent outfielder has agreed to a two-year contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The deal includes an option for a third year. The 29-year-old hit .273 with 12 home runs and 58 RBI last season for the Minnesota Twins. Kubel is a career .271 hitter with 104 home runs in seven seasons, all with the Twins.

The Minnesota Timberwolves will wrap up their brief preseason schedule against the Bucks tomorrow night in Milwaukee. The Wolves blasted the Bucks, 117-96, when the teams met in Minnesota on Saturday. Kevin Love had 21 points and 15 rebounds in the win. Minnesota has a practice this afternoon at the Target Center.

The University of Minnesota men's basketball team will welcome North Dakota State to Williams Arena on Thursday. The 11-1 Golden Gophers have been off since beating Central Michigan 76-56 last Tuesday. The Bison enter Thursday's game with an 8-2 record.

South Dakota State guard Nate Wolters of St. Cloud poured in 34 points in leading his team to a 92-73 victory at Washington yesterday in Seattle. Wolters added seven assists, four rebounds and had no turnovers in the win. The Jackrabbits victory ended a 32-game non-conference home floor winning streak for the Huskies. Wolters played high school basketball at St. Cloud Tech. South Dakota State is now 10-4.
