Badgers do extra conditioning to prepare for Oregon's offense

PASEDENA - The University of Wisconsin football team is doing some extra conditioning work this week to get ready for Oregon's fast-paced offense in Monday's Rose Bowl.

Defensive tackle Patrick Butrym said Oregon normally snaps the ball in the first 15 seconds of the play clock -- and often faster. Butrym, a senior, says the Badgers are simulating Oregon's fast pace in their practices -- even going up to eight plays without a break. The Badger coaches have kept defensive players on the field longer, because it's hard to make substitutions when the Ducks's offense is on a drive.

Head Coach Bret Bielema said the practice involved lighter contact and conditioning work afterward. He said the practices today and tomorrow would have lesser amounts of conditioning at the end. Fullback Bradie Ewing says the key is to get just the right amount of conditioning so players stay fresh and don't wear down.
