Wisconsin's ethanol producers appear to be finding new customers overseas. U.S. exports of ethanol hit a record one-billion gallons this year.
Renewable Fuels Association president Bob Dinneen said U.S. ethanol now has the lowest cost of any transportation fuel in the world. And because of that, he says U.S. producers have been meeting the demands for renewable fuels in Canada, Mexico, Europe, and southeast Asia. Dinneen says American ethanol has also made inroads in Brazil, which many regarded as the world's lowest-cost producer because of its sugar resources. But he says the U.S. has had the competitive pricing advantage for almost two years, as production has become more efficient.
Ethanol is made from a number of products. Wisconsin's fuel is made from corn.
