RIVER FALLS - The specially-fitted Honda CR-V SUV owned by Carrie Gajewski that was stolen from the Croix View Apartments parking lot on Dec. 16 has been recovered according to the Hudson Police Department.
The vehicle was found in a UW-Stout parking lot in Menomonie last week. There did not appear to be any significant damage. Police continue to investigate.
The SUV was specially fitted with hand controls, to allow Gajewski the ability to operate the vehicle even with the limited use of one of her hands that resulted from a stroke she suffered a decade ago.
Gajewski spent five days in intensive care and another five weeks in the hospital after her stroke in mid-February 2001.
The stroke occurred in the left side of her brain where language and speech processes are. Gajewski went through both speech and physical therapy to learn how to talk and walk again.
In 2005 she was able to move into her own apartment in Hudson.
Four years later, Carrie got a job at the UPS store, where she now works two days a week with the help of the Wisconsin Department of Rehabilitation.
