SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Falling behind by 23 at one point, the Marquette Golden Eagles rallied against the number-one team in the country, only to fall short. Marquette closed to within a bucket before Syracuse slammed the door in a 73-66 Big East Conference game.
Marquette’s record falls to 12-4, including two losses in three Big East games. After trailing big, the Eagles cut the margin to 59-57 with just under five minutes to play. The Orangemen finally recaptured the momentum to stay undefeated on the season. Darius Johnson-Odom led Marquette with 19 points.
Marquette had beaten Syracuse twice last season. A first-half run of 19 straight points helped the Orange avoid that happening Saturday.
