EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - NFL.com reports the Vikings would like to interview Mel Tucker for their defensive coordinator position.
Tucker was the head coach of the Jaguars on an interim basis after the team fired Jack Del Rio, a former Viking himself. The Jags are reportedly interested in keeping Tucker as their defensive coordinator.
Tucker played in college at the University of Wisconsin and has been an NFL assistant for several seasons.

The University of Minnesota men's basketball team takes on eighth-ranked Indiana at Assembly Hall tomorrow night. The 12-5 Gophers are on a four-game losing streak. All four losses have been in Big Ten play. Indiana is 15-1 on the season. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. tomorrow. In games last night in the Big Ten, Illinois' Brandon Paul netted a career-high 43 points behind 8-for-10 shooting from three-point range to lead the Illinois Fighting Illini to a 79-74 upset win over fifth-ranked Ohio State. Paul also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and had four blocks, carrying the Illini to a third straight win. They improved to 15-3 overall and 4-1 in Big Ten play. The Illini are now off until a week from tomorrow at Penn State.

A spokesman for Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak says the Vikings have "raised some legitimate concerns" about additional costs of building a new stadium on the Metrodome site -- and the city is taking steps to address them. Rybak spokesman John Stiles says they're "very much open" to an alternative location on Linden Avenue, but expect the Metrodome site will be the one in their final proposal to Governor Dayton later this week. The Vikings say lost revenue from playing at TCF Bank stadium for three seasons, plus additional required upgrades at the U-of-M facility, increase the cost of building a new stadium on the Metrodome site by $67-million.

A mass personal injury lawsuit has been filed by a group of former NFL players against the league in Philadelphia federal court. Hausfeld LLP, a firm representing 106 retired football players, filed a complaint that alleges the NFL has long been aware of the serious risks to football players from head impacts and chose to downplay the scientific evidence acknowledging these risks. Among the players involved is former Viking defensive back Paul Krause, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The plaintiffs contend the league caused serious injuries to thousands of players as a result of the NFL's improper conduct. The lawsuit follows similar suits filed last month in federal courts in Miami, New York and Atlanta.

The University of Iowa's leading rusher Marcus Coker asked for and has been granted a release from his scholarship. The sophomore running back withdrew his application to enroll in spring semester classes. Coker rushed for nearly 14-hundred yards and 15 touchdowns this season, but was suspended from the Insight Bowl against Oklahoma due to a violation of university policies.

St. Cloud State senior wrestler Lucas Munkelwitz of Forest Lake is this week's NSIC Wrestler of the Week. Munkelwitz won all three of his matches to help push the No. 3 Huskies to a first place finish at an even in Springfield, Illinois. One of those victories came against the top-ranked grappler in the 197-pound weight class.

If Bud Selig (SEE-lig) wants to remain commissioner of Major League Baseball, it's apparently his job to turn down. ESPN reports Selig will be offered at least a two-year contract extension to continue in the position he has held since 1992. The 77-year-old former Milwaukee Brewers owner has one year left on his current deal. He previously said he planned to retire in 2012.
