SUPERIOR - A new company has chosen Superior over Brunswick, Maine to build airplanes. A new company has chosen Superior over Brunswick Maine to build airplanes. Governor Scott Walker’s office announced this morning that the Kestrel Aircraft Corporation has chosen Superior for its new headquarters and manufacturing plant – and up to 600 new jobs will be created.
The firm earlier announced its intention to make Brunswick its home base, but Superior made a better financial offer with the help of state officials. The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation says it will create an enterprise-zone at the new plant’s location. It would provide $18-million dollars in tax credits. A pair of state loans would provide up to two-million dollars each. And the state says it will try to secure $30-million-dollars in federal tax credits for companies that locate in low-income areas.
Kestrel’s CEO, Alan Klapmeier, recently said about 250 people would initially be hired at one plant in Superior, and another 350 jobs would be provided at an aircraft assembly plant at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. The County Board will be asked this week to approve a transfer of over 13 acres for the project.
