Cardinals lose to NR, Ellsworth moves into second with win

Ellsworth moved into a second place tie with Prescott in the Middle Border Conference after Cardinals lost at New Richmond 56-41 Tuesday while Ellsworth won at Osceola 25-18.

New Richmond is 5-1 in the MBC while Ellsworth and Prescott are both 4-2. Baldwin-Woodville, who beat Durand 65-57 is also 4-2 and Somerset, a 52-47 winner over Amery, is 3-3.

Lemoine Steffen led the Panthers (6-4 overall) with 10 points and Jacob Betthauser had five rebounds.

Ellsworth shot 10-for-33 from the field and went 5 of 7 from the free-throw line. The Panthers finished with just three turnovers for the game.

Osceola (2-8 overall, 1-5 in the MBC) shot 7 of 26 from the field and had only 10 2-point attempts.

Prescott couldn't generate the offense needed to beat New Richmond. They only scored five points in the whole first quarter and just 26 points in the second half.

Only four players scored for PHS led by Clay Seifert's 18 points and Mike Lytle's 16.

Ellsworth plays Baldwin-Woodville Friday in Ellsworth. Prescott (10-3 overall) is at Amery (5-7 overall, 2-4 in the MBC).
