MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee Brewers’ outfielder Ryan Braun will accept his National League MVP award at the annual baseball writers’ dinner on Saturday night in New York. But he’s not expected to say anything about his positive test for a banned substance, which he’s appealing in arbitration. And the writers were told they cannot interview Braun.

He has proclaimed his innocence, and he’s expected to have an arbitration hearing around the end of January. Braun faces a 50-game suspension if his positive drug test is not overturned.

The Brewers might not know his status when Braun is scheduled to appear at the team’s fan festival on January 29th. But they’re expected to know Braun’s fate by the time spring training opens in mid-February.

It does not appear that Milwaukee free agent first baseman Prince Fielder will be heading to Texas. Rangers’ general manager Jon Daniels says it’s “very unlikely” that his organization will be able to sign Fielder. That’s after the Rangers invested 111-million dollars in Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish. Texas signed Darvish yesterday to a six-year contract worth $60-million. And they’ll pay $51-million in posting bids for the right to negotiate with Darvish and sign him. That apparently leaves Washington as the apparent front-runner to sign Fielder – whose agent Scott Boras has been demanding a seven-or-eight year contract for the 27-year-old slugger.
