Golden Gopher men, women pucksters win close games

The University of Minnestoa men's hockey team won a close contest over Colorado College Saturday 2-1 while the women's team needed a shootout to edge Bemidji State.

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnestoa men's hockey team won a close contest over Colorado College Saturday 2-1 while the women's team needed a shootout to edge Bemidji State.

Jen Schoullis scored two second period goals to give the U a 2-0 lead at Ridder Arena. Emily West also had a goal for the Golden Gophers. BSU's Erika Wheelhouse tied the game with goal late in the third period before the Gophers won the game in the shootout. Noora Raty had 26 saves for Minnesota and Zuzanna Tomcikova made 42 saves for Bemidji State.

At Mariucci Arena the Gopher men secured the win thanks to second period goal by Nico Sachetti. Gopher goalie Kent Patterson had 19 saves and also had an assist. CC goale Josh Thormibert made 35 saves.

Minnesota's men's team stays atop the WCHA with a 13-5-1 record, 17-9-1 overall. The U women's team is second behind No. 1 ranked Wisconsin in the WCHA standings at 14-4-2 and 20-4-2 overall.
