The Ellsworth boys basketball team broke open a tied ballgame at halftime in the second half to pick up a 55-40 victory Tuesday over Luck in Ellsworth.
The Panthers (7-5, 4-3 Middle Border) got 14 points and five rebounds from Jake Betthauser as they took a 44-38 lead after the third quarter and held Luck to two points in the fourth quarter.
“I think tonight we just created shots a little better for each other,” Ellsworth head coach Cory Brathol said.
Lemoine Steffen added 13 points and eight rebounds while Chrystian Kulow added 12 points for the Panthers, who shot 23 of 43 for 53 percent.
Ellsworth trailed by eight after the first quarter and rallied to tie the game before halftime at 28.
Karsten Petersen led Luck with 12 points and John Denny added 11 points.
The Panthers forced 16 turnovers in the win.
