ST. PAUL - The latest round of talks aimed at getting an agreement on a new Vikings' stadium has received an apparent vote of confidence from the National Football League. The NFL has announced that none of its franchises will receive permission to move to the vacant Los Angeles market until at least next year.
The announcement comes as the Vikings’ ownership and government officials continue exploring the location of a new stadium at the site of the Metrodome. The team’s lease at the Dome expires next Wednesday.
Backers of a new Vikings stadium continue trying to nail down a site and a funding source that will pass muster at the legislature as lawmakers wrap up their first week of the 2012 session. Senator Julie Rosen says gambling has to be part of a stadium package, and the Fairmont Republican says the leading contenders are racino and electronic pulltabs. Rosen says she supports electronic pulltabs. A proposal for racinos at Minnesota's two horse tracks faces significant opposition from Minnesota's Native American tribes.
