Andy Kittel hit a 17-footer as time expired Friday for New Richmond to beat the Ellsworth boys basketball team 48-46 in Ellsworth.
The shot was just the second field goal of the game for Kittel but it was just what New Richmond needed.
The Panthers (7-6, 4-4 Middle Border) never led in the second half, but tied the game with :38 seconds left to play. New Richmond held the ball at the other end until Kittel hit the game-winner.
Lemoine Steffen scored a game-high 17 points for Ellsworth and pulled down seven rebounds, six offensive. Alex Campbell added 11 points and Travis Kroll scored 10 points for the Panthers, who shot 47 percent from the field.
Ellsworth went just 3 of 11 from the free-throw line.
Joe Deppe led New Richmond with 15 points and Alex Knox added 11 points.
The Panthers face Amery Tuesday in Ellsworth.
