Golden Gopher hockey teams both winners Friday
Minnesota Sports-- The University of Minnesota's men's team solidified its hold on first place in the WCHA by beating St. Cloud State 2-1 Friday while the women's team routed Minnesota State 6-3.

Two third period goals helped the Golden Gophers put away Minnesota State in Mankato. Minnesota led 3-0 before the Mavericks scored three goals in the second period to make the score 4-3. Emily West had a hat trick for the Gophers with three goals while Sarah Erickson and Kelly Terry each tallied a goal and an assist. U goalie Noora Raty made 20 saves. Tracy McCann made two goals for MSU.
The game winner for the Minnesota men's team came from Nick Bjugstad in the second period at Mariucci Arena. Winning goalie Kent Patterson made just 13 saves because St. Cloud State was held to just 14 shots. Jake Hanson had Minnesota's other goal in the first period. The U now leads the WCHA by three points over Minnesota-Duluth.
