A logger was killed when he was hit by a moving log-skidder while clearing fallen trees. Sheriff's deputies said two men were attaching cables to the downed trees at the bottom of a hill, and the skidder machine slid down the hill and pinned the victim against a tree. A 34-year-old man was killed. His name was not immediately released. An autopsy was planned for today. The other logger was not hurt. The incident happened just before two yesterday afternoon on county-owned land near Cornell in the Chippewa County town of Cleveland. Officials said the the two men placed the skidder on the top of the hill, applied the brake, and braced it against a tree stump before it slid down. Deputies said the U.S. Occupational Safety-and-Health Administration was notified about the mishap.
A 52-year-old man was killed yesterday in a farm accident in Chippewa County. Sheriff's officials said the man was hurt inside a cow yard in the town of Delmar. He died at the scene, and an autopsy was scheduled for today. Other details, including the man's name, were not immediately released.
