Game on for Badger State Winter Games

Wisconsin Sports
-- The mild winter will not stop a revival of Wisconsin's winter sports festival.

The mild winter will not stop a revival of Wisconsin's winter sports festival. Organizers of the Badger State Winter Games said its events will be on for the weekend, as the snow levels are adequate at Marathon County's 9-Mile Forest near Wausau.

Officials said a number of spots are bare, and they'll need to be filled in. But the trails should be quote, "good to go" for the 400 skiers expected in Saturday's competitions.

The Wisconsin Sports Development Authority dropped the Badger State Games last year, citing a lack of sponsors and falling participation. But the Wausau-Central Wisconsin Convention and Visitors Bureau picked up the Olympic-style sports festival in October. And while the number of registrations is down from a year ago, officials said they're happy with how the transition year is working out so far.
