U's Maturi to retire as AD in June
Minnesota News-- University of Minnesota athletics director Joel Maturi plans to retire this summer after a decade on the job Maturi will reportedly stay with the school as a special assistant to U of M President Eric Kaler.
MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota athletics director Joel Maturi plans to retire this summer after a decade on the job Maturi will reportedly stay with the school as a special assistant to U of M President Eric Kaler.
Maturi wrote in an email to student-athletes, coaches and staff, "it is with mixed emotions that I share with you that...I will announce my retirement as the director of athletics at the University of Minnesota effective June 30th."
Maturi's accomplishments as Gophers AD include NCAA championships in men's and women's hockey and wrestling, the TCF Bank Stadium project and the hiring of men's basketball coach Tubby Smith. Critics blame Maturi for the failures of the Gopher football program.
