MADISON - Minnesota State scored the first goal and held the lead for more than a period, but when the Wisconsin women’s team got going, they took over the action at the Kohl Center.

The Badgers scored five goals in a row to take a 5-2 win. Brittany Ammerman had two goals and two assists as Wisconsin blew the last place Mavericks off the ice. Wisconsin’s record improves to 25-2-2 overall, including 19-2-2-1 in WCHA play. Wisconsin fired 47 shots on goal in the easy win. Brooke Ammerman, Madison Packer and Hilary Knight also scored goals for Wisconsin. The Badgers go for a sweep on the home ice tomorrow at 2 p.m.

The Wisconsin men’s hockey team avoided a shutout loss when freshman Brendan Woods scored with just over two minutes left at the Kohl Center. But it was the Badgers’ last gasp in a 5-1 lopsided loss to St. Cloud State Friday night, one of the Badgers' worst defeats at home in program history, in front of over 11,000 fans. It's UW's third straight loss.

The Huskies scored three times on five power players as Wisconsin’s record fell to 12-13-2, including 7-12-2 in WCHA competition. St. Cloud State scored less than five minutes in and never trailed and UW was without team captain John Ramage for much of the game as he was given 15 penalty minutes for controversial check-to-the-head call. Wood was also ejected for a similar check late in the game and will miss tonight's series finale. UW lost despite outshooting SCSU 32-26. The Badgers go for the split on the Kohl Center ice tonight.
