SVE wins regional title, onto team sectional
Spring Valley/Elmwoood wrestling co-op team won its first regional title Saturday.
BOYCEVILLE - Spring Valley/Elmwood wrestling co-op team won its first regional title Saturday.
The No. 3 ranked Redbirds amassed 272 points in the WIAA Division 3 Boyceville Regional, up 52 points over No. 10 Boyceville while No. 9 Glenwood City was third and Prescott fifth with 142 points.
Spring Valley/Elmwood had four champions in the meet: Brady Webb at 120 pounds Nick Berg at 126, Brian Fesenmaier at 160 and Tyler Hunter at 195 pounds. Joining them for the individual sectional next Saturday in Osseo after finishing second are Derek Huebel at 113, Zac Newton at 132, Conner Sieracki at 138, Jaron Turner at 145, Jon Newton at 152, Steve Von Haden at 170 and Andy Bune at 182.
Prescott had three sectional qualifiers. Josh Farr recovered from a knee injury suffered last week in the Middle Border Conference meet and won at 113. Teammate Matt Pechacek won the 170-pound title and Alex Stuhl finished second at 120.
SVE qualified for the team sectional Tuesday in Cadott. The Redbirds will take on Ladysmith in the semifinals and other semifinal pits defending sectional champ Clear Lake vs. La Cross Aquinas. Wrestling begins at 6 p.m.
