GREEN BAY - The Green Bay Packers have named their third running backs coach in three years.
Head coach Mike McCarthy has hired Tampa Bay quarterbacks' coach Alex Van Pelt to lead the Packer rushing corps. He replaces Jerry Fontenot, who will replace Ben McAdoo as the tight ends coach. McAdoo is Green Bay's new quarterbacks coach after Tom Clements -- who held that spot -- became the new offensive coordinator.
Fontenot will have served only one year as the running backs' coach, after he replaced Edgar Bennett -- who begin his second campaign as the wide receivers' coach. McCarthy also made a couple moves involving lower-level assistants. John Rushing will become a general assistant on offense instead of an assistant receivers' coach -- and he'll keep his other spot as an assistant on special teams.
Also, Joel Hilgenberg will become an assistant offensive line coach, after being a quality control aide in 2011.
