Old Cowbelle: Eagles ... and Mazine
One morning as I was dusting a north window (yes, I do dust once in a GREAT while), a huge eagle flew by the house, so low I could almost see its eyes. Sonia was just then driving into my yard and the eagle flew right over her car.

I never tire of seeing those magnificent creatures. I always gaze after them as they flap away and the verse from Isaiah comes to mind. “But they who trust in the Lord shall renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Maybe not for me in this lifetime, the “running” part anyway. But they do give me an emotional high, just watching them.
I learned from e-mail friend Frances and from a young lady at the Ellsworth Care Center (I don’t know her name) that the Big River Catholic Church is very much in existence and is also very active.
The church’s name fascinates me, and I wonder how that name came to be, and who named it. I suppose it is because of the nearby St. Croix River or where the two rivers converge.
It’s difficult, being so inquisitive.
Back when Husband spent so many months at the Veterans’ Hospital, I would drive that road, past the church and through Hastings. I always thought the scene pretty, seeing the church as I came up over the hill approaching it.
My sympathy to the family of Rhoda Gunderson, who passed away recently.
Now, on to the ridiculous. I am referring to the many Maxine cartoons that come through the e-mail. I always think Maxine looks a lot like me. Today’s Maxine asks questions.
—Why isn’t the number 11 pronounced “onety-one”?
—If four out of five people SUFFER from diarrhea, does that mean that one out of five ENJOY it?
—If a pig loses its voice, is it disgruntled?
—Do the Tea employees take a “coffee break”?
—What ever happened to Preparation A – G?
