CADOTT - Spring Valley/Elmwood made history for both schools as the Redbirds co-op wrestling team clinched its first WIAA Division 3 team sectional title Tuesday.

The No. 2 ranked Redbirds defeated Ladysmith 51-18 in the semfinals and then topped No. 8 ranked and defending sectional champ Clear Lake 40-31 in the finals.

SV/Elmwood dominated Ladysmith, the Heart O'North Conference champions, from start to finish, recording six pins, a technical fall and two major decisions in their 10 wins. Getting those pinfalls were Brady Webb at 120 pounds, Nick Berg at 126, Jon Newton at 152, Andy Bune at 195, Tyler Hunter at 220 and David Walker at 106 in a lighting-fast :12 seconds. In fact, of all SVE's pinfalls, four were under a minute. Jaron Turner recorded the technical fall at 145 by 17-1 score and winning by major decision were Zach Newton at 132 and Brian Fesenmaier at 170. Conner Sieracki nearly got a major decision as he won 8-1 at 138.

SVE, 15-2 overall, had beaten Clear Lake soundly earlier in the season but Tuesday's dual meet was a much closer. The Redbirds needed back-to-back pins by Webb and Berg at 120 and 126 to reverse a 31-28 deficit after the Warriors had won four matches in a row from 220 through 113 pounds. SVE's early lead grew to 28-10 after back-to-back pinfalls from Bune and Hunter. Also winning for SVE early on was Sieracki by a major decision and Newton and Fesenmaier by pinfall.
