EAST LANSING, Mich. - The University of Wisconsin men's basketball team will try to win at Michigan State tonight for the first time since 2004.

Senior guard Rob Wilson says he remembers the last loss all too well. He committed a key turnover in overtime last January, when the Badgers fell to the Spartans. Junior forward Jared Berggren said he remembers Michigan State's 9-0 run at the end of regulation. He said it was a game the Badgers let slip through their fingers. If they can avenge that loss tonight, Wisconsin can move up in the Big Ten standings. They're in fourth place at the moment, a half-game behind Michigan, one game behind Michigan State, and one-and-a-half in back of league-leading Ohio State. 15th-ranked Wisconsin comes in at 8-4 in the conference and 19-6 overall. Number-seven Michigan State is 9-3 in the league and 20-5 overall. And Tom Izzo's Spartans are 6-0 at home this season.

In women's basketball tonight, Wisconsin hosts Michigan State. 11th-ranked UW-Green Bay is at Cleveland State. Milwaukee plays at Youngstown State. And the UW-Parkside women-and-men play at Saint Joseph's.

The University of Wisconsin women's basketball team will play its first game in a week tonight when it hosts Michigan State. The Badgers have a three-game losing streak, and are 4-8 in the Big Ten and 8-16 overall. They'll face a Michigan State team that's 7-5 in the conference and 15-10 overall. Wisconsin has struggled under first-year coach Bobbie Kelsey. And she spent last Friday, Saturday, and Monday on the road looking for recruits for 2013 and beyond. Kelsey kept only one of the four players signed by former coach Lisa Stone -- Madison East guard Makailah Dyer. She signed last November, as did guards Nicole Bauman of New Berlin Eisenhower and Dakota Whyte of Ontario and forward Shannon Malone of Flower Mound, Texas. The Badgers will also bring in junior college transfer Daria Kryuchkova. The Russian native is a post player at Jacksonville College in Texas. Three scholarships remain available for the following year's class in 2013, and three more in '14.

Two upsets last night created a three-way tie in the WIAC men's basketball race with one game left. Co-leader UW-Stevens Point was upset at home by UW-Stout, 67-64. Freshman Hank Kujak made a three-pointer with one-point-four seconds left give Stout only its third conference victory of the season. Also, River Falls was upset at La Crosse, 74-66. That put the Pointers, Whitewater, and River Falls in a tie for the conference lead going into Saturday night's regular season finales. All three leaders are 12-3. Superior is fourth at 8-7.

Meanwhile, Stevens Point earned at least a share of the WIAC women's title with a 65-44 win at Stout last night. Second-place Eau Claire can still win a share of the crown by beating the Pointers in their regular season finale on Saturday night. Otherwise, Point wins the championship outright.
