Pierce County's top two girls' basketball teams emerged Thursday with two big wins in league play.

Prescott upended Durand 35-34 at home while Elmwood swept the season series over Boyceville for the first time since 1997 with a 41-35 win at Elmwood.

PHS's tough defense held the Middle Border Conference leaders scoreless for the entire first quarter. This gave the Cardinals a lead they hung to throughout the ballgame. Cassie Murphy scored 14 points and Georgia Bowen finished with 12 points.

Elmwood, meanwhile, turned around a 21-14 halftime deficit by outscoring the Bulldogs 27-14 in the second half. The Raiders buried Boyceville at the free-throw line, outscoring them 17-8. EHS's Christina McKune led all scorers with 21 points and McKayla Brunner finished with 18 points. McKune went 8-for-12 from the free-throw line.

Elmwood improved to 12-7 overall and Prescott is now 11-9.
