Andrew Bogut’s broken ankle and Drew Gooden’s sprained wrist have the Milwaukee Bucks looking at some options at the center position. The Journal-Sentinel is quoting one basketball source as saying the Bucks are checking out 25 year old Kyrylo Fesenko and 31 year old D.J. Mbenga. Neither has played an NBA game this season. Fesenko played for Utah last year and Mbenga was with New Orleans for about half the season. Milwaukee currently has an open spot on its roster and a growing need for a big man.

Who needs a big guy in the middle? The Marquette Golden Eagles are doing just fine without a powerful presence down low. They got plenty of production from Jae Crowder and Darius Johnson-Odom on the way to a 79-64 road victory against UConn. Crowder scored 29 points and took down a dozen rebounds at the Eagles won for the 10th time in 11 games. Johnson-Odom added 24 for the undersized Marquette team. Knee injuries have sidelined the Golden Eagles’ big men Chris Otule and Davante Gardener. That leaves Marquette with just seven scholarship players ready to hit the court and nobody taller than 6-foot-7. Despite the size disadvantage, Marquette outrebounded the Huskies Saturday 33-30. Connecticut was playing without legendary coach Jim Calhoun. He has back problems and isn’t expected to return for the team’s game at Villanova tomorrow night. Marquette’s record is 22-5 after Saturday’s victory, including 11-3 in the Big East.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee used some hot shooting from three-point range to knock off Fairfield Saturday, 67-63, in the BracketBusters game. Paris Gulley and Tony Meier each hit three long-range shots to lead the way. Fairfield saw its six-game winning streak stopped cold. Gulley led Panther scoring with 19 points, while Meier was good for 18. The Panthers record is now 17-12. They led most of the way, only to see the Stags grab a one-point lead with three minutes left. A jump shot by Gulley put Milwaukee up 64-63 and Fairfield missed three shots in the final minute.

UW-Green Bay dominated on the boards in a 54-49 victory over Eastern Michigan Saturday. The Phoenix record is now 12-14 after the non-conference win. Kam Serroni and Keifer Sykes led a balanced attack with 10 points each. Alec Brown had nine points, but added 13 rebounds, four blocked shots and three assists. Green Bay outrebounded Eastern Michigan 41-29.

Rhinelander native Dan Forsman fired a six under par 66 at the ACE Group Classic Saturday, but he is still nine shots behind the leader. Kenny Perry stands at 18 under par going into today’s final round in Naples, Florida. Forsman is tied for 11th at nine shots under par.
